Eskimo lace ending stitch video tutorial

This video tutorial demonstrates how to embroider a decorative variation of the running stitch – Eskimo lace ending, also called Eskimo stitch and Laced edging.

Eskimo lace ending stitch is a hand embroidery stitch made in two steps. First, we embroider a simple running stitch. The second step – lacing. The stitches in the second row under the running stitches form the loops that are laced under the running stitches.

We can use the same color both for running stitches and for lacing. Also, we can use contrasting colors to create a beautiful decorative border design.

The Eskimo lace ending stitch would look great in border designs or as a decorative motive on the seams.

Some additional tips:

  • Make all the running stitches the same length so the final ornament is symmetric and fluid.
  • Different lengths of the running stitches will create different patterns – play with it.
