Otomi stitch hand embroidery filling stitches cover

Otomi stitch video tutorial

Otomi stitch is actually a super-narrow herringbone type stitch. Otomi people of central Mexico use it for filling areas in Otomi Embroidery . This type of embroidery is also called tenango embroidery.

When making this stitch, you always work with your thread on the top side of your fabric. That’s why Otomi stitch is comparatively economical. If you need to fill very large areas, you should divide the shape into sections, not larger than 2 cm. Otherwise, the stitches will lose tension and there will be a risk of creating some loose threads.
