Split stitch vs split backstitch video tutorial

Split stitch vs. split backstitch. What is the difference?

In this Split stitch vs. Split backstitch video tutorial, I show you what is the difference between the two embroidery stitches.

Both stitches are great for outlines and lettering and work excellent on straight and curved lines.

A split stitch is made by splitting the previous stitch from below, and a split backstitch is split from above. Visually, a split stitch has more volume and texture and looks thicker and sturdier. While split back stitch lies flatter on the fabric.

Often, people call both stitches a split stitch, but you should know that a split stitch and split backstitch are actually different stitches.

Watch this video tutorial and learn the difference between a split stitch and a split backstitch.

If you want to learn more, I wrote a whole blog article to address the differences between split stitch and split backstitch. You can read it HERE.
